Founder Statement

allen f. perry | Creator of Hip-Hop 4 Frshmen

I come from a generation that learned the business of hip-hop through experience — not textbooks. Before building classrooms, I lived the artist journey under the name K.O., starting out performing at Club Speed and later taking the stage at the legendary B.B. King’s in Times Square. During the summer of 2007, I was featured in VIBE Magazine after releasing a hit

record that earned recognition for my artistry. I was later signed to Boom Entertainment — the music label owned by Lenny Kravitz — and founded my independent imprint, Rise & Grind Entertainment, driven by a vision of ownership and independence.

Those experiences revealed a gap: artists were being taught how to create, but not how to build businesses. That realization became the foundation for Hip-Hop 4 Freshmen — a blueprint for artists and entrepreneurs designed to translate culture into strategy, branding, and long-term ownership.

After earning dual master’s degrees from Full Sail University in Entertainment Business and Digital Marketing, I transformed my real-world music industry experience into a new educational framework — one that meets students where culture and commerce intersect. Today, my work through Alternative Education has been recognized by outlets including The Source, and implemented in schools like Brooklyn Technical High School — the nation’s largest high school — while also finding a home at the Hip-Hop Museum in the Bronx.

I now manage and consult artists and entrepreneurs who understand that success isn’t just about visibility — it’s about ownership, structure, and legacy.

This isn’t just a curriculum.

It’s a blueprint for artists and entrepreneurs.

A movement rooted in culture.

And a vision for building leaders of the new school.
